Recent awareness is growing about the importance of Cragsmoor artists in
the development of late 19th and early 20th century American art. Helen
M. Turner remains an important figure in the history of the art colony here in Cragsmoor. This is not only because she lived and painted here for more than thirty years but also because her art is considered the most innovative of all the artists who painted in Cragsmoor. Most chose this location for landscape painting while Turner like Charles C. Curran opted to depict primarily female figures and the lush flowers of her own gardens. This is precisely the type of genre by Turner that we are offering here.

In 1920 while the painting was exhibited at the Frank K. M. Gallery the leading art critics of the day praised this painting titled "The Dreamer" in all their reviews. These reviews were printed in all the leading New York City Newspapers. Copies of these reviews will accompany the painting. The following was taken from Helen Turner's record book:

"The Dreamer; oil on canvas 25 X 30 inches - Young girl in white waist / curls hanging over shoulder / blue bow at neck with streamers / vase with white roses at right hand side / peacock feather fan in her hands. Owned by Mr. & Mrs. Richard Scoles of Passaic,
New Jersey - sold to them February 1920."

In 1966 the painting was cleaned and relined while it was at the Hanover Square Art Gallery. The painting is in excellent condition. This painting comes with an unlimited lifetime guarantee of authenticity. This piece will be included in the forthcoming catalogue
